How To Extend the Results of Teeth Whitening

When you decide to invest in professional teeth whitening, you spend a considerable amount of time, money, and effort. If you’re like most of Dr. Mark Studor’s patients in Bedford and Argyle, Texas, you’re glad you chose to make that investment!

You probably have more confidence since you got your teeth whitened. You may find yourself smiling more often. If you love your new, bright smile, there are a few things you need to know about how to keep it.

Excellent hygiene is key

Your teeth look great now, but if you neglect your oral hygiene, they could well become stained again. Be certain you brush at least twice a day, or even after each meal if that’s what Dr. Studor suggests for your specific situation.

When you do brush, brush each quadrant of your mouth for at least 30 seconds. Use a soft brush and a gentle, circular motion.

Floss everyday, and use mouthwash at least once. If you’re unsure of how to properly floss, talk to our staff. We’re happy to help you make sure you’re mouth is clean and healthy!

Finally, make and attend regular appointments with Dr. Studer twice per year. Regular checkups are the most effective way to guard against cavities, decay, or other problems.

Be wary of what you drink

Are you a coffee addict? Do you enjoy a glass of red wine in the evenings? Is tea your favorite thing?

Although those are perfectly fine beverages, they can cause staining. Consider using a straw, or brushing your teeth immediately.

What you eat matters, too

Just as certain beverages can stain your teeth, so can some foods. Berries, tomato-based sauces, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and curry, among other foods, can discolor your teeth.

This doesn’t mean you can never enjoy a delicious plate of spaghetti again. Just take some precautions. Try not to let staining foods stay in your mouth for too long, and drink plenty of water as you consume them. If you can, brush your teeth soon after your meal.

Don’t smoke

There are many reasons to stop smoking, but if you need one more here it is: Smoking stains your teeth. Not smoking is one of the best ways you can keep your pearly whites sparkling for a good, long time.

Get touch ups if you need them

After a few years, Dr. Studer may recommend you have touch-ups. Getting your whitening touched up will keep you smiling!
